The California Desert Tortoise sculpture donated by the Addison Family to Seeds of Wonder Children¹s Garden at Quail Botanical Gardens oversees first anniversary festivities. |
San Diego, CA, April 9, 2004, — Quail Botanical Gardens announced today that it plans to celebrate the first year anniversary of Seeds of Wonder Children's Garden and welcome the California Desert Tortoise sculpture donated by Paul and Linda Addison on Sunday, April 18 at 2:00 PM. The event will take place in Seeds of Wonder at Quail Botanical Gardens, 230 Quail Gardens Drive in Encinitas.
"We are so pleased to have this wonderful gift of love in the gardens for all children to enjoy," commented Diane Baxter, Director of Development. "And that she arrived in time to help us celebrate Seeds of Wonder's first anniversary is perfect."
The California Desert Tortoise sculpture is cast in bronze and stands about 30 inches high. Leucadia artist Ann Paul Barca was commissioned by Linda and Paul Addison to create the piece as a memorial to their daughter Suzanne Addison, who died in an automobile accident when she was 16. "Suzanne loved children and we wanted to create a lasting memorial to her that would continue to share that love," said Linda Addison. "We chose the tortoise because children are intrigued by them and it¹s a wonderful shape for playing on and around‹ a place for fun," said Addison.
The event at the Seeds of Wonder Children's garden on Sunday April 18 takes place at 2:00 PM and members of the Turtle and Tortoise Society will bring some of their pet turtles to enhance the festivities. Children's crafts will also be provided. Garden admission is $8 per adult, $5 for seniors, student and active military, and $3 for children over 2. Members are free.
